Westvaco Corporation – Richmond, VA (06/1994 to Present) – BPCS Version 6.02

Developed an interface between custom inventory and purchasing modules to SAP R2 corporate financials.  The programs were modified to automatically create requisition and receipt records to be sent to SAP through APPC.

As a member of an 11 person implementation team, planned and implemented BPCS 6.0.02 which went live in November of 1997.  My areas of responsibility during the implementation and as continuing support have included the following:

n      Planned, organized and supervised a Physical Inventory for the Consumer Packaging Division prior to going live on BPCS.  Wrote the software to allow entry of the counted records to compare to the scanned records to determine the integrity of the shop floor data collected through the scanners, as well as to reconcile the counts with the system records.

n      Participated in gathering and documenting requirements from users in all departments concerning the functions needed in the new system

n      Developed conversion programs for all inventory master records from the legacy system to BPCS

n      Modified BPCS Inventory Master Maintenance to a) create interface records to SAP on entry, change or delete of the BPCS record to keep the SAP inventory and BPCS inventory in synch, and b) access a custom item master auxiliary file which was necessary because of additional information that needed to be maintained on item records, other than that information that was available in the BPCS record

n      Modified BPCS Purchasing module to create SAP requisition records at the time a BPCS purchase order was entered.

n      Supervised the modification of BPCS purchase order creation to meet the requirements of the SAP requisition module.

n      Developed an interface between a PC based Cylinder Storage system and BPCS inventory which kept the location of the cylinders in synch in both systems.

n      Developed a custom Cycle Counting module to interface with BPCS cycle count file structure.  This is an interactive module which allows the user to mass process counted records as Step 2 as opposed to entering them individually through the BPCS inventory Step 2 method.  Reconciliation is enhanced by allowing the user to roll through all transactions that are selected for counting and watch as the cycle count/physical count transactions are visible real time when scanned in the warehouses in 6 plants in 3 states.  History for each item to be counted, as well as pending transactions against the item, are visible to facilitate proper correction of discrepancies, and all items with no discrepancies are posted in batch automatically without operator intervention when requested by the operator with a function key.  The program allows the user to select records for cycle counting based on many different ranges, including item, warehouse, location, zone, item class, item type, customer and lot/non-lot, for maximum counting flexibility.

n      Participated in the development of a custom inventory transaction processor application, which receives scanned transactions from the shop floor and performs custom processing through custom called programs as well as feeds CIMPATH for the updating of BPCS.

n      Developed a custom online inventory receiving program (for use by users without scanners) which creates records to be fed to the custom inventory transaction processor application

n      Participated in the conversion of the SAP interface from APPC to IBM MQ Series and from SAP/R2 to SAP/R3

n      Developed an archiving system for BPCS bills of material, routings, and notes

n      Developed and conducted training seminars on the use of radio frequency scanners and the interface to BPCS and the interface between the Cylinder Storage system and BPCS.

n      Developed an interface between BPCS Load Control and SAP/R3 Accounts Payable for automatic creation of freight payments from the BPCS load records.

n      Wrote technical documentation and flowcharts for custom modules and enhancements to BPCS using Microsoft Word and Visio.

n      Organized, planned and converted all custom AS/SET programs to the century compliant version of AS/SET

n      Trained users in the use of MRP Planning/Pegging and Purchasing Consolidation to effectively benefit from the MRP function

Aero Transportation Products, Inc. – Kansas City, MO  (03/1999 to 04/2000)

Organized, planned and converted the company’s hardware and software from a S/36 BPCS Version 2.9 to AS/400 BPCS Version 4.05CD.  All financial and manufacturing modules were converted.  I was one of a 2 person contracted team.  The conversion took 25 weeks between 1999 and 2000.  I will summarize only the highlights as follows:

n      Converted all files through a conversion aid.  However, the BPCS version that the aid was expecting was not the version that was running on the S/36, so we had to determine and write programs to accommodate for the differences that were not taken into consideration by the conversion aid.

n      Major modifications (in approximately 20 areas) had been made to the 2.9 version of BPCS, some of which were documented and some of which were not, some of which were small and some of which were not.  All, however, had to be incorporated into the new version of BPCS to which we were converting.  Therefore many modifications, enhancements and custom modules had to be incorporated into the new version of BPCS.
